The dybbuk , or boxed box box (in Hebrew known as ????????? ?, or Kufsat Dibbuk ), is a wine cabinet supposedly haunted by dybbuk. A dybbuk is an anxious soul, usually evil, believed to be capable of haunting and even having a life. The box became famous when it was auctioned on eBay with horror stories written by Kevin Mannis, and was the original inspiration for the 2012 movie The Possession .

The term "box was built" was first created and used by Kevin Mannis to describe the wine cabinet in the goods information for eBay auctions and as the subject of the original story describes the paranormal events that he attributed to the box. Mannis, a writer and creative professional with trade, has small antiques and furniture that perfected the business in Portland, Oregon at the time. According to Mannis's story, he bought the box at the sale of land in 2003. It belonged to a Holocaust victim in a German-occupied Poland named Havaleh, who fled to Spain and bought it there before his immigration to the United States.. Havaleh's grandson told Mannis that the box was bought in Spain after the Holocaust. Upon hearing that the box was a family heirloom, Mannis offered to give the box back to the family but the grandson insisted that he take it. "We do not want it," he said. He told her that the box was kept in her grandmother's sewing room and never opened because it was said to live in it.
Upon opening the box, Mannis writes that he found that it contained two pens of the 1920s, a lock of blonde hair tied with a rope, a black/brown hair key tied with a rope, a small statue carved with the Hebrew word "Shalom", a trophy small golden wine, one dried rose, and a single candle with four feet of octopus.
Many box owners have reported that strange phenomena accompany it. In his story, Mannis writes that he's having a series of terrible nightmares along with others when they have boxes or when they stay in his house while he has them. Her mother suffered a stroke on the same day she gave it a box as a birthday gift - October 28th. Each box owner has reported that the smell of cat urine or jasmine flowers and nightmares involving an elderly woman accompanying the box. Iosif Neitzke, a Missouri student at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and the last person to auction a box on eBay, claimed that the box caused a burning lamp in his house and his hair fell out. Jason Haxton, Director of the Osteopathic Medicine Museum in Kirksville, Missouri, has followed Neitzke's blog about the box and when he is ready to get rid of the box Neitzke sells it to Haxton. Haxton wrote The Dibbuk Box , and claimed that he later experienced strange health problems, including itching, coughing up blood, and "head-to-toe welts". Haxton consulted Rabbis (the Jewish religious leader) to try to find a way to close the dybbuk in the box again. Apparently successful, he picked up the newly sealed box and hid it in a secret location, which he would not reveal. He recently donated a box for Zak Bagans of Ghost Adventures for display at his museum.
Skeptic Chris French, head of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit at Goldsmiths' College, told the interviewer he believes the box owner is "ready to look for bad things."
