History
Aykroyd and Alexander first understood the idea for Crystal Head Vodka in 2007. Due to the lack of vodka-free additives in the market, Aykroyd decided to make it on his own. Alexander designed the bottle based on the attraction the couple had with the thirteen skeletons of Crystal Skull.
It took two years to execute the manufacture of bottles, made by a glass manufacturer based in Milan, Bruni Glass. Crystal Head was launched in Southern California in 2008 and launched in four other countries shortly thereafter. It was sold throughout the United States in 2009 before it became available worldwide.
Crystal Head Vodka is in development at the same time as the Indiana Jones film and the Crystal Skull Kingdom. Sensing conflict, Aykroyd arranges to meet with Steven Spielberg to discuss resolving the matter. For Aykroyd's surprise, Spielberg suggests that he will love Crystal Head Vodka to be presented at the premiere.
In 2010, the Ontario Liquor Control Board refused to bring Crystal Head Vodka at her shop saying that people might find the bottle offensive. They then reverse their decisions after the changes were made to the box design.
In May 2011, 21,000 vodka bottles were stolen from a warehouse in Southern California. Aykroyd joked that he "is glad that some consumers will be given a chance to taste significantly lower than retail prices".
In 2013, Aykroyd spends more than 90 days a year on the road promoting vodka through signing and appearance. This brand is the official vodka of the Rolling Stones 50th Birthday Tour in 2013.

Aurora
In August 2015, Crystal Head Vodka released Crystal Head Aurora, an extension of the line for the Crystal Head vodka brand. Aurora is manufactured by Globefill Incorporated at the distillation of Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation in Newfoundland, Canada. Wheat UK from North Yorkshire, England is processed and distilled five times in traditional columns still. Raw spirit is then reduced by Newfoundland water to 40% alcohol by volume. Unlike Crystal Head Vodka, Aurora is filtered using activated charcoal; This unique filter lasts for 6 hours to remove any impurities. Aurora is then filtered three times through the Herkimer diamond. Aurora uses final micro filtration before packing in bottles.
Bottle design
The original bottle is produced by Milan-based glass manufacturer Bruni Glass.
Bruni Glass also manufactures bottles of "Aurora". The original Vodka Crystal Head bottle is placed in an enclosed space and is electrically charged. The two metals in powder form are then activated and released into the pressurized chamber. The powder is drawn to the electrically charged bottle, completely coating it. The bottles are then baked at high temperatures melting the powder and creating colorful metalized finishes. No two bottles of a similar Aurora.
The defect rate in bottle production is about 40% at 750 ml. Higher on larger size. The size of 3 liters is close to 70%. This can be compared with a defect rate of less than 0.5% in a normal bottle.
Production
Crystal Head Vodka is manufactured by Globefill Incorporated at the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation refinery called Rock Spirits in Newfoundland, Canada. Corn and Corn "peach and cream" grown in the Chatham-Kent region of Ontario are processed and distilled four times to produce a neutral grain spirit in 95% alcohol by volume. Raw spirit is then reduced by Newfoundland water to 40% alcohol by volume. The liquid is then filtered seven times out of three through the Herkimer diamond. These crude rocks are quartz crystals, which have been regarded as healing properties by some new age belief systems. This ownership screening process is responsible for the smoothness of vodka. Crystal Head does not use additives - glycerol, citrus oil, or sugar - in the production of their vodka. Factories and products are halal certified, as well as gluten-free.
