The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust is a certified and self-winding chronometer watch manufactured by Rolex. When launched in 1945, Datejust is the first watch with a date function that changes automatically.

History
Rolex introduced the original Datejust (reference 4467) in 1945 to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary. It is only available in 18 karat yellow gold and has a small bubble bubble back with very deep back. It also featured the company's waterproof Oyster case (first introduced in 1926), fluted bezel, and new Jubilee bracelet (so named for this event).
Over the years, the Datejust movement has undergone a subtle refinement of its features and the expansion of design options. A few years after his debut, In 1954, Rolex added the now famous Cyclops lens as a major update.
Datejust is offered with two classic Rolex bracelets: Jubilee and Oyster. The original Datejust was launched with a 36mm case size. Then, however, the female and medium versions became available. The Turn-O-Graph model was introduced in 1955 as an award given to US Air Force pilots returning from combat missions. It displays a rotating bezel marked up to 60 minutes, which can be used to measure time intervals. Datejusts of this type have been dubbed "Thunderbirds". Chuck Yeager wore one of these models when he damaged the sound barrier. This will be the basis for Rolex Explorer (designed for Everest Sir Edmund Hillary's expedition), Rolex Submariner, and Rolex Sea Inhabitants.
In 2009, Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust II was released. At 41mm diameter (excluding crown), the casing is larger than the original Datejust.
In 2016, Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41 was released. This watch is made of stainless steel, and stainless steel two-tone and 18k yellow or 18k everose gold (gold bracelet version of Rolex). The 41mm Datejust 2016 is on an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. While Datejust 41 has a 41mm diameter size similar to Datejust II, Datejust 41 has a smaller index and a thinner bezel compared to Datejust II.
Although there is a general trend towards watches larger than 2001, spurring Rolex to increase the size of Datejust in 2009, there is some confidence that the size of the clock is decreasing. Rolex still advertise the current 36mm Datejust as a man's watch and many purists believe it is standard and it will always remain a classic Rolex.

Some male characters in The Informers film use Rolex Datejust. In the movie American Psycho, Patrick Bateman uses Rolex Datejust 16013, two yellow gold tones with a gold-lined dial vertically lined. Both are adaptations of the Bret Easton Ellis novels.
Paul Newman was seen wearing the Datejust in the movie The Color of Money .
Harrison Ford sporting a 36mm Datejust in the 1980s film Frantic . It has a white Roman dial number, a white gold frame and a bracelet and a jubilee steel case.
Bill Murray wears Datejust with a black dial in the movie Lost in Translation .
President Bill Clinton, Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan all wore Rolex Datejust while in office. Eisenhower's' Datejust has a white Roman dial number, a stainless steel machine that turns into a bezel and a jubilee steel bracelet and a steel box.
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who had a rather large wrist, wore the first 36mm Datejust model while in office during World War II.
