This is a list of cross-Christian variants . The Christian cross, with or without the figure of Christ, is a major symbol of Christianity. A cross with the figure of Christ affixed to it is referred to as the cross and the figure is often referred to as corpus (Latin for "body").
The term Greek cross pointed the cross with the arms of the same length, as in the plus sign, while the term Latin cross pointed the cross with a longitudinal descending arm. Many other variants have been developed during the medieval period.
The Christian Cross is used extensively in churches, above church buildings, in the Bible, in symbols, in personal jewelry, on hilltops, and elsewhere as endorsements or other symbols of Christianity. The cross is a prominent feature of the Christian cemetery, whether carved on a tombstone or as a sculpted statue. Therefore, planting small crosses is sometimes used in Christian cultural countries to mark the sites of fatal accidents, or, like the Zugspitze or Mount Royal, making it visible throughout the surrounding area. Roman Catholicism, Anglican and Lutheran depictions of the cross are often crosses, to emphasize that it is Jesus that matters, rather than the cross in isolation. The big cross is a prominent feature of some Lutheran churches, as illustrated in the Rood article. However, some other Protestant traditions describe the cross without the corpus, interpreting this form as an indication of belief in the resurrection rather than representing the interval between the death and resurrection of Jesus.
