Histori
Officially establishing a community in 1902, the first name given to the settlement at the turn of the century was Kansas Ridge because many of the settlers were from the Kansas country of America. Among them were three Rimbey brothers (Sam, Ben, and Jim) who were given the city's official name after 1904. Rimbeys moved to Canada from Scott County, Illinois after moving to Illinois in the 1830s from Maryland. They were born in Pennsylvania.
In 1919 Lacombe Electric Railway and Blindman Valley (the next part of the Canadian Pacific Railway) reached Rimbey, and there was much enthusiasm for the "new city" by its tracks (now Highway 20). Two grain companies built the elevator the following year and Rimbey's population swelled to 319 in 1921.
The Second World War brought a sudden change to Rimbey, when the youths and sometimes their families left the village. When the war ends some returns and the others do not. Many new faces came to Rimbey and the population jumped to 634 in 1946.
