Pink diamond
Argyle diamond mine is located in Northern Western Australia. It produces more than 90 percent of the world's pink diamonds; 0.1% of diamonds in the mine are classified as pink. Pink diamonds come in shades ranging from pastel roses, like Pink Orchids, to intense violet-red like Moussaieff Red Diamond. The price is determined by the intensity of the color. Pink diamond has sold up to $ 1,000,000 carats. Unlike Type I diamonds, which derive their color from dirt, pink diamonds are Type II and get their color from a process known as plastic deformation.
Diamond type II hardly contains nitrogen in it. Their color is due to structural anomalies caused by Plastic Deformation during crystal growth. Strong pressure changes the diamond grille structure and leads to the formation of pink, red, and brown diamonds. Only one of the 66 largest diamonds in the world is pink. When Ben Affleck gave Jennifer Lopez a solitaire diamond pink diamond engagement ring, the traffic to a website selling pink diamonds increased by about 300 to 400 percent.
- Pink Panther
Perhaps the most famous pink diamond in the world is a fictional Pink Panther diamond, made famous by the 1963 film The Pink Panther, starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau, who is hot on the trail of a gemstone known as The Phantom.
- Darya-ye Noor
The diamond Darya-ye Noor is believed to be the largest pink diamond in the world. The stone is estimated to weigh 175 and 195 carats and is a pink color. Its exact weight is unknown because it has been installed in its brooch arrangement for over 130 years. The stone is part of Iran's Crown Jewel and is displayed at Iran's Central Bank in Tehran.
- Pink Star
The Pink Star (formerly known as Steinmetz Pink Diamond) is classified as bright pink and weighs 59.60 carats. It is found in Africa and is the largest Fancy Vivid Pink diamond in the world. This diamond was first shown in 2003 in Monaco. Eight jewelry sellers take 20 months to create this flawless diamond, making more than 50 models before cutting the original diamond.
- Graff Pink
The Graff Pink is a 24.78-carat Pink Intense diamond (4.96 g) - and the most expensive gem ever sold at auction - formerly owned by Harry Winston and an anonymous personal collector and purchased by Laurence Graff (November 2010).
With this new technique in creating laboratory diamonds, it is increasingly possible that pink diamonds will be available to the public at affordable prices.
