Its brands include Kettle Brand chips, Emerald pine nuts, Pop Secret popcorn, and Diamond of California snacks and culinary beans. By 2016, this brand belongs to Snyder's-Lance.

History

The company was founded in 1912 as Diamond Walnut Growers, Inc., an association of agricultural cooperatives owned by California members. In July 2005, Diamond Walnut Growers switched to Delaware and initial public offering as Diamond Foods.

  • 1912: Diamond was established as a cooperative by a group of California walnut farmers.
  • 1919: Diamond is the first peanut manufacturer to launch a national advertising campaign.
  • 1930: Diamond starts selling the beans overseas.

  • 2007: Diamond Super Bowl spots featuring Robert Goulet, ranked as the number one ad by Advertising Age and generated a 68 percent increase in Emerald sales.
  • 2008: Diamond earns popcorn popcorn from General Mills.
  • 2009: Emerald earns a ten percent market share of peanut snacks at a US grocery store.
  • 2010: Diamond acquires Kettle Foods potato chips company operating in the US and UK.
  • 2011: Diamond and Procter & amp; Gamble announces that Pringles will join Diamond. The deal is expected to be completed by June 2012.
  • 2012: The company was plagued by accounting scandals and the Pringles deal was canceled.
  • 2013: Following the 2012 accounting scandal, on January 18, 2013, Diamond Foods officially halted all production at Fishers, a factory in Indiana. More than 100 full-time employees are dismissed and the Harmony brand is permanently discontinued.
  • 2014: The SEC endorses the settlement in connection with the 2012 accounting scandal. The SEC separately held a settlement with former CEO Michael Mendes. SEC Litigation with former CFO, Steven Neil, remains unresolved.
  • 2016: Snyder's-Lance acquires Diamond Foods and all companies under the Name of Diamond Foods.

Diamond Foods has five product lines:

  • A row of Diamond Foods chips is sold under the Brand Kettle label in the United States and the Kettle Chips brand in the United Kingdom. They are available in various flavors, styles and package sizes.
  • The food snacks from Diamond Foods are sold under the Emerald brand, and include a mixture of snacks, baked goods, glasses, and flavored scents and other snacks. The product line includes 100 Calorie package sizes.
  • Popcorn Diamond Foods, in both kernels and various flavors of microwave popcorn, are sold under the brand of Secret Pop. The product line includes Homestyle Popcorn Microwave and items like 94% Fat Free and 100 calorie size snacks.
  • In-shell and culinary beans are sold under the Diamond of California brand. In-shell beans are usually sold in grocery stores producing portions during the winter holiday season. The culinary beans are sold in the aisle of grocery cakes, masses, clubs, and other retailers.
  • Food and Food Products from North and International Foods including California bean diamond brands, hulled and processed peanuts, glazed peanuts, and nuts processed specifically for food processors, restaurants, bakeries, and food companies and suppliers.

Production

The company has about 1400 full-time employees in Wisconsin, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, and the United Kingdom. Diamond does not grow its own plants; buying raw materials from domestic and international sources. The diamond products are processed and packaged at a facility in Stockton, California; Salem, Oregon; Van Buren, Indiana; Beloit, Wisconsin; Robertsdale, Alabama; and Norwich in the UK.
