Julie White (born 1967) is a British businessman and entrepreneur, who has become famous after being the managing director of a multimillion-diamond diamond drilling company. By the time he took over Coventry-based D-Drill in 2008, he was the only woman running a business of its kind. White and his company have won several awards, both from industry and the wider business community.

Life and career
Born in Coventry, Warwickshire, he grew up in town, and attended Warwickshire College where he studied business management. After graduating with a medium grade, he went around the world, working in a number of work in the process, including selling pizza on the beach and being a cruiser shipmaster. On returning to the UK, he studied NVQ qualifications in business, and started his first business in 2001. The company, Superfloor UK Ltd, introduced a new technique for specialist floor preparation to the UK, and helped establish it as an entrepreneur in the Midlands. In 2008 he completed the purchase of D-Drill management, a business his father founded in the 1960s, at that time being the only woman running a company of its kind. His father did not believe women should work in the construction industry until White succeeds in the floor business, but then asks him to take over D-Drill from him. He feels he can only do it, however, if he buys the company. D-Drill turnover fell 40% during the first six months of his tenure, and he undertook a restructuring and modernization program, a process that included making redundancies and renegotiating supplier contracts.
Under his leadership, White has invested heavily in training and apprenticeship, continuing the strategy first implemented by his father, and undergoing some of his own training to better understand his business. According to the 2012 article by the BBC, D-Drill's spending on training is five times the industry average, while about 45 percent of the company's workforce is in training, or has completed their internship program with D-Drill. White wrote about his belief in the importance of apprenticeship training in an article for the Huffington Post in March 2013. "We have a responsibility to invest in the future of our own company and, indeed, the future of our industry because we can all has the best policies, procedures and best practices, no people, nothing is important. "In 2013 White won government support on his advice from the national database of interns, an idea he proposed to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills after learning that it was impossible for his company to get contact details that have recently qualified, but are unemployed. trainees, with a view to offering them career opportunities at D-Drill.
In 2012 the company is the largest branch network in the UK in its industry, and has won contracts to work in the House of Commons, London's Shard, and Vostok Tower in Moscow. D-Drill has sponsored the manager of Coventry City Football Club since 1983. She appeared as a guest on the 5th of February 2012 issue of BBC Five Live's Radio On the Money with Declan Curry, and on June 21, 2012 she was a panelist on the BBC's political debate program Question Time with guests included Justice Minister Kenneth Clarke and Shadow Health Minister Andy Burnham. This program was recorded at West Bromwich. He appeared on BBC Breakfast earlier on the same day talking about ways the government can help improve the business. Awards
Since White took over the company in 2008, D-Drill has won several industry awards for their work, including the prestigious Diamond Award from the Association of Concrete Drilling and International Sawers in February 2011. The company received the award for his work in preserving the Royal Doulton tile artwork 100 years is priceless in Newcastle. In October 2011 he was also voted Vitalise Businesswoman of the Year, the previous recipient who has included Karren Brady and Hilary Devey. She was selected for the First Women's Award 2012.
D-Drill is also the recipient of the Coventry Telegraph Business Award for his commitment to training and development. in April 2012 the company was awarded at the Specialist Awards, run by the Construction News industry publication, while in April 2012 D-Drill became the first in its field to receive a platinum award in the Construction Standard Certification Scheme.
