History
Company formation
In 1854 Joseph Isaac Asscher, a famous craftsman in the diamond industry, founded the diamond company Asscher I.J, named for his son Isaac Joseph Asscher, who followed in his father's footsteps and entered the diamond industry. He passed on his skills to his two sons, Joseph and Abraham, who became two of the 20 most prominent diamond experts in the 20th century. Under Joseph and Abraham, this company is known as Asscher Diamond Company.
The Asscher Cut
In 1902 Joseph Asscher designed the original Asscher piece. The piece of this symbol is the first patented piece of signature. Asscher Diamond Company entered into an exclusive patent until the Second World War and saw strong international sales.
The Excelsior diamond
In 1903, at 997 carats (199.4 g), the Excelsior diamond was the largest diamond ever found. Gems require expert handling to be carved properly: inclusions in rough diamonds prevent it from being polished as a single stone. Abraham Asscher was charged with splitting the Excelsior; to minimize the flaws, he carved the stone into ten diamonds that were primarily sold to anonymous buyers. Rumors and myths about the location of diamonds.
The Excelsior diamond was the focal point of Victoria Fantasy Fantasy Bra in 2003 which was priced at about $ 13 million with a gem panty for an additional amount close to $ 1 million.
Diamond Cullinan
In 1905 Cullinan diamond was discovered. At 3,106 carats (621.2 g) it was a legendary discovery, and achieved instant fame around the world. The diamond was presented to King Edward VII, and he invited Asscher's brothers to London to discuss the splitting of diamonds. It was decided that Joseph Asscher would split Cullinan into three parts, required by inclusion in rough diamonds. Nine big rocks were cut from it, the largest was 530.20 carats (106,040 g) Cullinan I.
In February 1908, the famous audience gathered to witness Joseph Asscher splitting the big rock. To produce a big and beautiful diamond, he has to hit Cullinan in the right place. At first attack, his sword broke, while the stone remained intact. He fired everyone who came and started working to create a bigger and stronger tool.
The following week, armed with new equipment, Joseph resumed his work, not allowing anyone but a notary in the cutting room. The urban legend tells that Joseph fainted after hitting the Cullinan diamond with a tremendous blow. He then commented that the adrenaline rushing through him as the split stone so strongly he could think of was checking the stone and checking his work over and over before rushing to the next room to share the good news. Later, Cullinan diamonds are polished, ready to take place at the Royal Gems of Great Britain.
World War II
During the Second World War battle in the Netherlands, the Nazis entered the Asscher Diamond Company Amsterdam headquarters and confiscated his diamonds. Members of the Asscher family were Jews, and then deported from the Netherlands and exiled in concentration camps, along with almost all polishing companies. During the war, the patent on the original Asscher piece has expired. With no one updating the patent, other companies began to utilize Asscher's piece, which caused a market confusion about the origins of many diamonds that cut Asscher. Some companies choose to call Asscher they cut the square-emerald diamond pieces instead. Many of these diamonds were cut for results and did not always follow the original proportion calculations of Joseph Asscher for Asscher pieces, which set parameters for diamond crown height, table size, and side alignment.
After the war
In 1945 the war ended; only ten members of the Asscher family and fifteen of the five hundred Holocaust survivors. No company to go back to: although Amsterdam was once the capital of polishing diamonds in the world, the diamond industry there has been destroyed. Antwerp later emerged as a large diamond polishing center.
In 1946, Joop and Louis Asscher were invited to leverage their expertise and start a new company in New York. However, they chose to remain in their home in Amsterdam and to rebuild Asscher Diamond Company.
Royal Title
In 1980, His Excellency Queen Juliana of the Netherlands conferred the Asscher Diamond Company a royal title in recognition of the prominent and centuries-old role that the company and the Asscher family had in the diamond industry. With this honor, Asscher Diamond Company becomes Royal Asscher Diamond Company.
Royal Asscher Cut
Edward and Joop, the sons of Louis Asscher, continue the family heritage and examine the possibility of increasing Asscher aschir Joseph Asscher. They take design and proportion calculations and use computer modeling and simulations to see how light will work inside the diamond if certain adjustments are made during the cutting and polishing process.
Nearly 100 years after Joseph patented the original Asscher piece, Edward and Joop introduced a piece of Royal Asscher in 2001 (named for the company from which it originated). The Royal Asscher cut has an extra break in the diamond pavilion, giving a diamond 74 facet, compared to 58 of Asscher's original aspects. It is known for its superior light performance when compared to other cut diamond steps (in 2009 the AGS Laboratory launched an independent light performance rating certificate for the Royal Asscher cuts). The Asscher family obtains an international design patent so that the Royal Asscher piece can not be legally imitated; Royal Asscher is also trademarked and the company has exclusive rights on behalf of it. To further ensure the authenticity of each diamond is a laser that inscribed the Royal Asscher logo and the identification number belongs to only one diamond. The number is recorded with the Royal Asscher Diamond Company in Amsterdam and the Royal Asscher certificate accompanies the diamond.
