Histori

Birmingham Coach Company & amp; Diamond Bus

In 1984 Geoff Howle started trading operations coach as Birmingham Coach Company. Following the deregulation of the bus industry in 1986, Howle applied to operate route 16 between Hamstead and Birmingham in competition with West Midlands Travel.

In 2000, the Birmingham Coach Company was re-branded as a Diamond Bus, replacing many of their existing Leyland Nationals, expanding their networks in Birmingham and Black Country. In 2003 Diamond Bus has become a National Express contractor and opened a depot in Bradford.

Go West Midlands

In December 2005, the Go-Ahead Group purchased the Diamond Bus and in February 2006, Probus Management with over 100 vehicles and merged the two companies to form Go West Midlands.

Rotala Group

In March 2008 Go West Midlands was sold to Rotala which also has Central Connect and North Birmingham Busways. Rotala originally defended the Diamond business apart from Central Connect and Ludlows (later purchased), instead switching a number of routes between the three operators. From November 2011 Central Connect was again branded as Blue Diamond.

Red Diamond & amp; Black Diamond

In July 2008, the new bus operated at Redditch on route 57 and 58, was branded as Red Diamond. Since then a number of routes in North Worcestershire have alternated as Red Diamond along with new routes that compete with First Midland Red at Redditch. At the same time, the new buses are allocated to a number of Black Country routes, which are branded as Black Diamond.

Diamond West Midlands

By the end of 2012 Blue Diamond, Black Diamond and Signature become Diamond West Midlands and operate services in West Midlands.

Black Diamond

In 2008, after a takeover by Rotala, Diamond began "localize" their operations. In Black Country, this means that the brand becomes Black Diamond with 20 new Plaxton Centros (eight of which have moved to Wessex Bus due to service cuts). This is new for route 401, 402, 404, 404E, and 404H.

In 2009, Diamond unveiled eight more Plaxton Centro buses on route 9, using the Royale Black Diamond branding. Route 202 Halesowen - Bromsgrove and 4H Hayley Green - West Bromwich using Royale Black Diamond bus.

Most of these bus routes are new because since then it has a new bus (404E), withdrawn (404/H) or has an older stock transferred to them (401/2).

In October 2010, the Diamond bus branded 10 MCV Evolves MAN 14,240 for 404 Walsall - West Bromwich service under Black Country Connection Branding, service run every 6-8 minutes. These buses replace the Black Diamond brand buses that have 2 transferred to the Wessex Bus and the rest have been relegated to another route, for example 56 (which is now operated by NXWM as a 937 service).

On April 23, 2017 the Arriva Midlands Wednesfield operation was purchased with nine vehicles.

On July 28, 2017, the local Hanson Bus business that operates services in Stourbridge, Dudley, and surrounding areas was purchased. Local Bus Hanson was formed in the 1980s by Margaret Hanson as a coach operator. Following the deregulation of the bus industry in 1986, Hansons diversified into an operating bus service.

Blue Diamond

Blue Diamond was formed from the incorporation of Zak Buses, Birmingham Busway North and Birmingham Motor Traction. In January 2008 Ludlows, Halesowen was bought. Originally from Central Connect, in November 2011 it was changed to Blue Diamond.

Signature

On 7 June 2010, Central Connect launched the Signature brand with two Solihull routes taken over from National Express West Midlands, S2 (S2/S2A/S2C) and S3 operated with Optare Solo SRs with leather seats and on-board WiFi.

On July 26, 2010, the Signature brand took over route 82 from National Express Coventry but followed a more direct route between Solihull and Coventry using Mercedes-Benz Citaros and S4 service (taken over from Grosvenor) using MCV Evolutions, again both having seats leather and free on-board WiFi.

On March 27, 2011, the Signature brand expanded again with the addition of the 30 Solihull-Acocks Green route drawn by the National Express West Midlands.

When Central Connect was renamed 'Blue Diamond' at the end of 2011, the Solihull Signature brand was retained. In October 2013, Signature branding is applied to eight routes.

Worcestershire diamond

In early 2013 the Red Diamond was renamed to Diamond Worcestershire.

In collaboration with Worcestershire County Council, a new fleet of Red Diamond bus services was introduced to operate in Redditch. These buses mainly belong to Diamond Wright Eclipse bodied Volvo B7RLEs but there are some Dennis Darts that are repainted in operation.

From January 22, 2007, Diamond was forced to withdraw its night service on route 57 and 58 at Redditch, which is under contract for the County Council of Worcestershire, due to ongoing vandalism and violence on the route. The company told the council that they would no longer be at risk of operating at night. A month later on February 25, 2007, Diamond also pulled the night service on route 246 between Redditch and Evesham due to the low number of passengers.

On June 8, 2008, the company introduced 57A and 58A trips along the existing 57 and 58 routes, a new trip will serve Alexandra Hospital, after First Midland Red pulled the network to the hospital.

The Redditch operation was renamed Red Diamond in July 2008 to coincide with the launch of six new buses, with livery designed similar to what is used on Midland Red buses. In September 2008, six new buses were again in operation, along with 10 old buses in the new livery.

From August 31, 2008, Diamond Bus increased their commercial and non-commercial service operations in Redditch significantly, to the point where they operated more buses at Redditch than Main Midland's main rivals.

In February 2009, Red Diamond won the Worcestershire County Council contract to operate a number of services around Droitwich and Redditch beginning in April 2009, this is route 19 to Meadows Estate, 20 to Westlands, 20A to New Chawston, 137 to Dunhampstead, 140/141 to Bromsgrove and 157 to The Ridings. In addition, additional daylight travel will be provided on Redditch services 50, 64 and 70. The company will also once again operate night service at Redditch on route 55A, 56A, 57 and 58. Service 64 between Bromsgrove and Birmingham will also be numbered back to 144 and redirected to follow the same numbered service operated by First. The Droitwich residents were unhappy with the changes, pointing out concerns about the loss of known and respected drivers from local routes, however, Diamond Bus entered into an agreement with the former route operator, enabling them to continue operating with the same drivers, while Diamond Bus provides buses and uniforms.

In 2010, amid many criticisms of the poor performance of existing buses from the County Council of Worcestershire and passengers, Diamond carries nine Evolution MCVs for services 362, 363 and 382.

In January 2013, Red Diamond purchased First Midlands's Kidderminster and Redditch depots and re-branded the operation as Diamond Worcestershire.
