The Palazzo is a luxury hotel and casino resort located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. This is the highest finish building in Nevada. Designed by HKS, Inc., based in Dallas, this hotel offers luxury in an Italian Renaissance setting. Hotels and casinos are part of a larger complex (operated as one hotel) consisting of the Venetian Resort and Casino and adjacent Sands Convention Center, all owned and operated by Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

This all-suite hotel offers the largest standard accommodation on the Las Vegas Strip at 720 square feet (67 m 2 ) per guest room. The hotel complex is crowned as the largest hotel in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.

In its first year of eligibility, The Palazzo was awarded the AAA Five Diamond Award for 2009, and has been awarded the award annually since then. After 2014, The Venetian and The Palazzo no longer receive the AAA Diamond award, as management has refused further AAA checks.

History

Initial history

In 1949, the property was occupied by the Ottilia Villa Motel, the eight-room Park Lane Motel, and a restaurant called Maggie. The Carousel Motel opened on the property in 1953, and the adjacent Park Lane Motel was incorporated into the Carousel around 1954. The Ottilia Villa was renamed the Spanish Trail Motel in 1957.

The Tam O'Shanter motel was built and opened in 1959, at 1.5 acres (0.61Ã, ha) of land. The motel is owned by Bernie Zeldin, and is named after Illinois' Tam O'Shanter Golf Course, where Zeldin often plays. The motel has 100 rooms, and features a distinctive neon sign that resembles a tam 'shanter hat. The sign was then donated to the City Neon Museum. The Spanish Trail Motel went out of business around 1960. In 1962, it reopened as the Imperial 400 Motel.

Zeldin refused many offers to buy Tam O'Shanter. Billionare Howard Hughes tried to buy Tam O'Shanter at some point, initially offering $ 3 million. However, Hughes was late delivering the money, and Zeldin then raised the price to $ 6 million. When Hughes was late again in sending money, Zeldin canceled the negotiations. The Carousel Motel became Sand Dunes Motel in 1973, and was demolished in 1998. In 1990, Imperial 400 became a Days Inn. In 1996, this place became the Vagabond Inn.

Prior to his death in June 1997, Zeldin completed a $ 12.5 million deal to sell Tam O'Shanter to Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands, which then opened the adjacent Venetian resort in 1999. Adelson is a friend of Zeldin. The Venetian official bought 11.4 hectares (4.6 hectares) of land, including Tam O'Shanter, in October 1998. Bernie Zeldin's daughter, Leah Zeldin, operates Tam O'Shanter until closing. In December 2003, the Zeldin family was informed of the Venetian plan to destroy the motel for future resorts. Although there are no specific plans for new resort themes or construction dates, company officials want the motel destroyed so that the land can be prepared for future projects, known as The Venetian Phase II, which will consist of a $ 1 billion resort with 3,000 rooms.

Tam O'Shanter closed on 12 January 2004. An asbestos removal project for motels took 19 days to complete. Tam O'Shanter was later destroyed on February 6, 2004, to make room for The Palazzo. The Vagabond Inn, which contains asbestos as well, was also destroyed in February 2004. The cost of asbestos removal projects is between $ 500,000 and $ 1 million. The land has also been occupied by the Las Vegas Kosher Deli, as well as some small stores owned by the Venetian and is expected to close to make room for The Palazzo.

Construction

The foundation worked at Palazzo $ 1.6 billion starting in September 2004, without a groundbreaking ceremony. On February 27, 2006, the project is under construction for over a year. Most of the time it was spent digging a 4-storey floor hole to put in the underground parking structure. Then the building itself begins to rise gradually. Steel and erection fabrication is supplied by Schuff Steel Company. In November 2006, the hotel tower has reached the 35th floor. The ground floor construction, including the parking garage and the shopping center, runs well.

In March 2007, the core of the hotel tower elevator was completed, and the room area went upstairs. Façade and windows are being installed downstairs. In August 2007, the posts on the side of the tower were finished and ended.

Opening

On December 20, 2007, the Palace is scheduled to open at least 1,000 rooms on December 28 for the preparation of the Las Vegas New Year celebration, American Party . The casino and other areas of the Palazzo opened at 7 pm on Sunday, December 30, 2007, after a few days delay due to the licensing process in Clark County.

Once completed, The Palazzo - the total floor area covers 6,948,980 square feet (645,581 m 2 ) - replaces the Pentagon as the largest building in the United States in terms of floor area with a margin of about 383,000 square feet (35,600m < soup> 2 ).

Structural engineering is done by Walter P Moore Engineers and Consultants. Part of the resort opened to the public on December 30, 2007. The official inauguration took place on January 17, 2008.

in 2010, it was announced that it would be affiliated with InterContinental Hotels Group.

St. Regis Residences at Palazzo Venetian, Las Vegas

St. Regis Residences at Palazzo Venetian, Las Vegas is an unfinished condominium tower located at 3355 South Las Vegas Boulevard, between the Palazzo and the Venetian.

In November 2006, Las Vegas Sands requested approval from Clark County Commission to build a 632-foot condominium tower on a part of the Palazzo grounds. Construction of the $ 465 million tower began in early 2007, with pre-sale condominium units expected to begin in September. The tower is built on a retail building of 90,000 sq ft (8,400 m 2 ) which is part of the Palazzo project. Retail buildings and condominium towers are built on less than one hectare of land previously occupied by the Rosewood Grille restaurant. In September 2008, Las Vegas Sands and Starwood Hotels & amp; Resorts Worldwide announced a partnership to open the tower as "The St. Regis Residences at Palazzo Venetian, Las Vegas", which is named after the St. Regis from Starwood. The tower will cover 398 units, and is estimated to cost $ 600 million at the time. Under the deal, Starwood will manage the tower at its opening, which is scheduled for March 2010.

In November 2008, Las Vegas Sands suspended St. John's construction. Regis because of the Great Recession. An additional 18 months construction is required to complete the project, which stands 50 levels after completion. In November 2009, Las Vegas Sands stated that jobs will remain suspended until the economy improves. In June 2011, Las Vegas Sands covered an unfinished building with a $ 1 million pack made of gigantic sheet printed to resemble a finished building. A company spokeswoman said that until a decision was made regarding the project, "We thought it was appropriate to improve it aesthetically for the time being. We wanted it to look a bit more like it belonged between a pair of five diamond resorts like The Venetian and Palazzo." Michael Leven, Las president Vegas Sands, has an unfinished view of the tower from its office on the third floor, and then states: "I can not bear to see that steel. One day I came out in the pool and I realized The guests looked up and looked at the steel We put the cover on over it and it's well-lifted.You sometimes forget that it's there if you pass by. "

In April 2014, Leven said that money was no longer a problem in completing the project, stating, "This is not a financial decision anymore, but we want to do the right thing," referring to the final use of the building. Due to the uncertainty in the high-end residential market, high-rise, Leven states that it is unlikely the tower will be completed as a condominium. Until then, Las Vegas Sands had considered completing and opening the tower as a timeshare, but Leven stated that "the numbers did not work." Leven further states that completing the tower as a third-casino hotel with its own entrance is not possible. Also considered to be finishing the tower as an extension of the hotel to Palazzo and Venetian.

Design

This $ 1.8 billion resort features a lobby where guests from the street arrive under a 60 foot (18 m) glass dome with a two-story fountain. Those approaching from The Venetian make the transition through towering octagonal shaped structures and parks, which are above it by glass and iron domes. Visitors to The Palazzo using the underground parking structure can use the elevator or escalator from the underground garage and arrive at the casino property center.

The Palazzo Casino, like some of the other casinos on the Strip, operates under an associated casino license - in this case The Venetian license. The 642-foot (196 m) hotel tower has 3,068 suites and 375 suite-level suites.

The Palazzo is LEED Silver Certified - the largest LEED certified building in the country.

The Palazzo is reportedly the eleventh largest building in the world in terms of available floor space and is currently also the second largest building in the Western Hemisphere.
