The Seward neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, is geographically south-east of the city center and is determined by a triangle of land bounded by Hiawatha Avenue in the west, Minneapolis Midtown Greenway (between E. 27th St. and E. 28 St.) to the south, the Mississippi River to the east, and Interstate 94 to the north. The adjacent seward neighborhood is Cooper to the Southeast, Longfellow to the South, East Phillips to the Southwest, Ventura Village to the West, Cedar-Riverside to the North, and Prospect Park/East River Road across the Mississippi River to the East. This is one neighborhood that is part of the larger Longfellow community. Seward was named after former New York senator, governor, and US Secretary of State William H. Seward.

This neighborhood includes a number of local businesses along Franklin Avenue including two cooperatives, Seward Co-op (grocery store) and Seward Community Cafe. This neighborhood is also home to the Historic District of Milwaukee Avenue, Northern Clay Center, ArtiCulture, and The Playwrights' Center.

Civil information

Seward is one of the most politically liberal neighborhoods in Minneapolis, with usually only a handful of votes in every Republican police election. The Farmer-Peasant-Peasant Party and the Green Party are the main political forces. The main civil organization is the Seward Neighborhood Group and the community newspaper is The Bridge , the merger of two community publications, including the former Seward Profile.

School

One public school is located in the neighborhood, Seward Montessori School (using Montessori method for class K-8). Attached to the school is the Matthews Park and Recreation Center. The Anne Sullivan Communication Center (open to all students but emphasizes programs for the hearing and visually impaired) is located directly across the green road in the neighborhood of Longfellow. Students from Seward Neighborhood can walk to both of these schools.

Seward population in the US Census of 2010 was 7,308. The average household income in 1999 was $ 30,209. Approximately 18 percent of the population lived below the poverty level in 1999, including 13 percent of families. The average home value in 2000 was $ 112,000.
