Ling Ling Chang (born July 24, 1976) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Senate, representing the 29th district, covering parts of Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino County. He's a Republican. Before being elected to the state legislature, he was a member of the Diamond Bar City Council. By 2016, Chang is a candidate for the 29th State Senate district in California, narrowly losing election to Democrat Josh Newman. Chang will then be selected in the same district on voting back for the race to replace Newman in case he is recalled over his Gas Tax vote. The election resulted in Newman's recall with Chang winning the most votes at the second vote. He previously served in the California State Assembly.

Early life and education

Born in Taiwan, Chang and his family emigrated to the United States when he was three years old. She grew up in the Diamond Bar and graduated from Diamond Bar High School. He studied biology at UC Riverside but did not graduate. He was criticized during the 2014 campaign to claim that he attended Harvard University when he actually took online classes through a university's online extension program, which is open to the general public. Further controversy over its presence UC Riverside grew up in February 2016, by opponent Sukhee Kang, who made a public request for him to release his academic transcripts.

Careers

Chang works in the Insight Strategy Group. In 2005, he was elected to the Walnut Valley Water District Board and then was elected twice to the Diamond Bar City Council.

California State Assembly

Chang was elected to the California Assembly in the 55th district in 2014 and has five bills signed into law within the first seven months of his office. He also filed a bill to bypass business rules.

2016 The Senate goes

Chang is a candidate for the 29 State Senate district in the 2016 election. He ran against former Irvine mayor Sukhee Kang and veteran Josh Newman to replace Bob Huff in 2016 due to a term limitation.

As of October 2016, Chang has raised more than $ 4 million. He made public comments distancing himself from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In November 2016, with 49.6% of the vote, Chang lost the election to Democrat Josh Newman.

2018 Senate

On June 5, 2018, Newman was recalled from the state Senate primarily because he chose an unpopular gasoline tax hike after promising he would hold a tax line. Chang won the election to replace Newman in the state senate on a plural vote.
