GMT K2XX is the assembly code for vehicle platform architecture developed by General Motors for large truck lines and large SUVs that start production by 2014 models. "XX" is the holder for the last two digits of the assembly code specific for each model. The platform, which replaces the GMT900 series that has been manufactured from 2007 to 2013, was introduced in April 2013 for Model Year 2014 on trucks, followed by December 2013 production on a large 2015 SUV that debuted in February 2014. K2XX GMT products are manufactured at four GM assembly plants : Arlington (all SUVs), Flint (dual heavy-duty pickup and cabin crew), and Fort Wayne (regular and light heavy duty and heavy duty taxis) in the United States, along with the Silao Assembly in Mexico for light-duty cabin crew pickup.
The first GMT K2XX vehicle produced was a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2014 full-year and full-size GMC Sierra pickup model, with Silao producing the first crew cabin, followed by Fort Wayne assembling lights and regular sized HD and double cabin versions. Chevrolet Tahoe 2015, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade The full-sized ESV SUV is the next vehicle to start production, followed by Chevrolet Silverado HD 2015 and GMC Sierra HD.
The K2XX platform marks the first time that no Sport Utility Trucks, hybrid trucks and hybrid SUVs will be built on this platform, such as the Chevrolet Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT SUTs, and the hybrid versions of Silverado, Sierra, and full-size SUVs are discontinued after 2013 model year. However, the fuel economy of GMT K2XX vehicles will continue to increase during its predecessor GMT 900 thanks to the use of the new V/EcoTec3 V8 Generation engine with direct injection and heavy savings from the use of high-strength steel. Turbocharged and diesel engines for light duty models are also considered for upcoming GMT K2XX trucks and SUVs.
There are customer complaints relative to driveline vibration on the K2XX platform dubbed "Chevy Shake".
